
In Jhapa Municipality, 630 houses have been constructed to provide safe housing to the needy families. These houses have been constructed in partnership with Jhapa Municipality, Sahara Nepal and Habitat Nepal under the Safe Housing Program and Sustainable Community Project. Tika Prasad Kandel, head of the Safe Housing Program, said that 175 houses have been constructed in 2022 BS. “Safe, strong houses have been constructed targeting poor families,” he said. Housing is being constructed targeting the poor, homeless, squatters, backward classes, disaster affected people, women and people with different abilities.
Jhapa Village Municipality Chairman Jayanarayan Sah said that the government’s efforts alone would not be enough to implement the right to housing stipulated by the constitution. Raju Giri, Accounts Officer of Sahara Nepal, said that a three-room house with RCC pillars including a veranda is being constructed under the project. Since 2007, Habitat Nepal and Sahara Nepal have been building houses in partnership in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari and Udaipur under the project.
