
The Nepali national football team is returning home today (Thursday) after participating in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers. Although the team will return home, head coach Abdullah Almutairi is staying in Kuwait. Coach Almutairi has taken leave from ANFA and is staying in his home country Kuwait.
Nepal, who reached Kuwait without 11 senior players, remained in the bottom of Group A with a win and no points. Nepal lost 2-0 to Jordan in the first match of the selection and Nepal lost 4-1 to Kuwait in the second match. Darshan Gurung set a record of scoring against Kuwait after 40 years in that match. YV Ghale scored his first goal against Kuwait 40 years ago. That is the first goal scored by Nepal in international football. In the third and final match, Nepal lost to Indonesia by a huge margin of 7-0. In the match against Indonesia, Nepal was reduced to 10 players in the first half.
